Does this work now?

I’m not sure what the heck happened… I never put a “private” post in, but yet the post I did yesterday came up private… I got your comments but wasn’t sure what the heck you all meant! It wasn’t until Kate said something about private that I realized it came up that way… not sure why! I checked it and it said public… so I’m trying to post it again to see what happens…. let me know if you can read it! (Edited to add…. I think it had something to do with the new category… not sure why it went private though!)

Well I’m back, and not so happy about it, lol.

The beach was fabulous!! I can’t begin to tell you all the fun we had, and boy did we ever. From the first day we got there to the last morning before we left there were loads of fun things to do, a great beach which I took full advantage of, many laughs, and just a relaxing kind of attitude that I personally haven’t had in a long time.

I have a ton of pictures to upload, but here are some of the highlights…

The first day we were on the beach to watch the sunrise and were in the water by like 7:30am. The water was SO warm and each day was seemingly more perfect than the last. I definitely got some color, sunburn would be one of those colors one day, lol… but by the 3rd day into it my sunburn turned into a nice golden brown…. My son was way more into the water fun. We brought his boogie board and everyday he tried to see what waves he could catch – by the end of the week he was a little pro! He even braved the waves on the day that I wouldn’t even go in because of how high they were! (But I wouldn’t let him go out that far either, lol)

For fun during the day when it was too hot on the beach we went shopping, to the Myrtle Beach Aquarium, Margaritaville for lunch, miniature golfing, out to dinner a ton of times, souvenir shopping, Barefoot Landing to watch fireworks, and what I think was our favorite… we went to MagiQuest…

If you haven’t done Magiquest you absolutely MUST go! It’s like being inside a video game of sorts where you have to find clues that lead you to different items that you have to collect and bring to whomever, such as the “man in the tree.” All you get is a book and a wand and 90 minutes of fun… but let me tell you – it IS fun!!!! For example, we had to find the freeze emblem so we had to hunt down these symbols that we can only figure out by reading the clues… and then we had to run around this HUGE building (both up and down stairs) to figure out what they were talking about it. It really was the coolest thing ever… but boy, by the time our 90 minutes were up my feet hurt and I was exhausted, lol. Each quest you take on gives you a different emblem and then after you do all 12 of them you get to go on an adventure. Your wand builds up points and you use it to wave and point at an item so like if you wave it at a treasure chest it will “magically” open up and things will start talking to you. SO FREAKING COOL! My son had a blast with it, and even though we were only able to get 5 done in the 90 minutes, we can keep our wand and go to another MagiQuest and finish it up! You gotta love interactive stuff like this! Secretly I think I enjoyed it more than he did, lol, as all the parents seemed to be WAY more interested in finding the clues than that kids, but they loved all the stuff the wand could do. I highly recommend it for children and adults!

Let’s see… what else can I tell you… hmmm… I don’t even know. We did SO much but yet, it is so much of a blur! It went by so quickly so when I look at the pictures I’ll inundate you with good stories :-) Hope you all had a great week and I will be certain to come visit your blogs today to catch up on what I missed with you!

My Weekend in Review

It’s seems that every day was super busy and this weekend was no exception…

Starting Friday we went to the pool with a friend and her grandchildren (She is a very young grandmother!), and then from there my mom picked up my son and off they went for a fun filled day of shopping, dinner and playing. As for me, I just sat back and relaxed for the first time that week from 2:30pm on… the freedom of being alone was quite nice :-)

Then I went to the bar and got pretty stinking drunk…. my tolerance level for alcohol is at an all time low because of the fact that 1) I’m on diuretics and 2) I am not drinking nearly as much because I want to save my calories for food rather than beer :-) So after a trip to a second bar where I met a great guy. He was a very tall engineer type was kicked my ass in pool (always a plus when I meet a man!) and he was just generally funny and cute and made good money… the whole package.

He was also married :( So, we said goodnight and I went home (no, I wasn’t driving, I had someone else drive me home!)

Saturday, slept in, drove 50 minutes to pick up my son and then another 45 minutes to bring him to a birthday party. Drove 35 minutes to my friends house before driving to yet another pool where we let the kids play for hours while the adults indulged in some great fun playing beer pong! And let me tell you – for my first time playing, I have some skills!! We ended up losing 2 games because my partner wasn’t holding up his end of the partnership, and it didn’t help that the guys we were playing were super good!!! Anyways, back to Amy’s for an all night good time complete with firepit, random friend playing great songs on the guitar, neighbors from across the street coming over at 3am, and some American Idol singing to round out the night. I swear, that house is like the best party house EVER without even ever having a “party” so to speak… people just end up over there. You can’t get any better than that!

Yesterday I recuperated while working and sleeping, and now it’s Monday.

So far I have brought my son to swimming lessons, gone to lunch, gone to the doctor, driven home where I’m going to finish some work and head back to the gym for 1) nutrition appoint with the dietitian 2) Personal Training 3) Yogalates class (half yoga, half pilates)

I’m so freaking tired I can’t even tell you.

Damn, this was one of the most boring posts in a long time.. I’m so not humorous anymore, lol.

FIVE MORE DAYS TILL MYRTLE BEACH!!!! I’m going to need this vacation :-)

The Life of Someone on Summer Vacation

Yesterday was my son’s official first day of summer vacation as he got out of school on Wednesday.

He leisurely rolled out of bed at around 10am, walked downstairs promptly plopped himself in front of the TV had breakfast on the couch before we went for a bike ride. He then came back home and again watched TV while playing the Nintendo DS before we headed to the park to play soccer which we did before going out to eat dinner. That came before spending 2 hours making “boxes” out of construction paper and making pretend hop scotch boards out of construction paper which was right before he headed to bed at 9:30pm (2 hours past his bedtime).

Today we are going to the pool with a few friends which comes before his grandmother picks him up and takes him to a movie and lets him spend the night at her house.

As you can see, summer vacation works for him :-)

Have a great weekend all!

2 Down… 20-something to go!

Last night my son lost his 2nd tooth. Not normally a huge event, but what made it so darn cute was that he literally “lost” it. We were over my friend Amy’s and my son and his friend Lava were playing in her room. I guess he pulled it out and it went flying out of his hand somewhere on the floor. I could tell he was a little worried that the tooth fairy wouldn’t come so Amy told him not to worry that the tooth fairy knew anyhow because she would look in his mouth. Just to make sure, he wanted to write a little note to her… This is what he came up with –

So cute!! In case you can’t read 5-year old English it says…

Dear Tooth Fairy,

My tooth fell out.

I just loved it… definitely one for the baby book! He didn’t want to sign his name because as he put it “Well, I’m the only one in bed so who else would have wrote it?” Common sense I suppose :-) The tooth fairy left $2.00 just because of the sheer cuteness and because he woke up in the middle of the night to ask me to call Amy to see if she found the tooth. I hadn’t put the money under the pillow yet so he was concerned. I LOVE this age!!

Camp Mania!

Tagged Under :

Now that spring break is officially over for my son (teacher workday yesterday which extended it), it is time to start looking at camps. The only problem is, camps registers here at the end of February towards early March. So, by the time I did it yesterday, most of the good ones are already filled up!

He is much too young to go to overnight camp yet – neither him nor I could manage that very well :-) So, I had my heart set on this x-press camp located in Raleigh… and at only $47 for a FULL WEEK FULL DAY a lot of others had their heart set on it too! Full, full, full… at least the ones that were in decent areas. The ones that still had availability were in the absolute worst parts of town which I refuse to even drive in, never mind send him to.

So, I settled on a 1-week full day camp at a semi-local park with hundreds of acres of land, plenty of swimming, canoeing, hiking, and so much more to do. I was going to do 2 weeks of the x-press camp, but instead had to settle for 1 week of this much more expensive camp. But while I was looking a spot opened up on the summer baseball league for 5 to 6 year olds… so my son is going to play summer baseball as well! When I told him he wasn’t all that excited, but quite frankly, he would much rather stay home and ride his bike and play Wii.. which is fine for a few weeks, but not all summer. Also, there is this equally cool camp at the local rollar skating place, that combines a ton of fun field trips to a “fun park”, the movies, out to lunch, and to play miniature golfing as well as daily roller skating.

So, here is what I have so far for my sons summer plans –

1) swimming lessons June 15th to 19th
2) Free trip to Myrtle Beach from June 20th to June 27th
3) Full day camp at local wildlife and trail park July 6th to July July 10th
4) Full day camp at local roller skating rink August 3rd to August 7th
5) Baseball league with 2 games and 1 practice per week Mid-June to Mid- August

Whew, I think he is going to be pretty busy! There will be about 5 weeks of downtime when I have to plan some playdates and whatnot, but altogether its not horrible! If I can squeeze one more week of camp in there somewhere (providing there is still any availability) then I think we’re good!

I swear, camps are getting more and more expensive. I went to overnight camp for 2 weeks during the summer at a 4-H camp, and absolutely loved it! I remember it being $350 per week and again that was overnight, and that may have even been for both my sister and I but not sure. NOW to send a kid to overnight camp, at least around here it is almost $1000 if not more! FOR JUST ONE WEEK! I couldn’t even imagine spending that kind of money. Even the day camps around here range around $200… I was damn lucky to find one for $115 that is as fun as it is. The roller skating one is $160 so I’m bordering on insane amounts of money for that too, but at least you can pay in payments for that one! I just wonder how kids who’s parents aren’t working right now, or are facing financial hardship are even going to do it… I don’t know, I guess I live in the past where I think all camps should be affordable for children and their parents. Camps build good socialization and friendships as well as learning and quite frankly, keeping kids out of trouble! Why wouldn’t they make that more affordable for people? I don’t get it, but yet, I never will. That is why I have to say, Raleigh did a really good thing with their x-press camps for only $47… you can’t beat it! They do a lot of different things in a day, sometimes arts and crafts, drama, outdoor sports, and so forth… but they only have enough space and I’m bummed that I didn’t get in :(

Either way, I’m thrilled with what looks to be a great summer for my son!
